Abstract

Abstract: (1) Introduction: Pleural effusion is a problem in the pleural cavity, where fluid builds up, disrupting ventilation, so that the incoming air is not optimal. Handling ineffective breathing patterns focuses on meeting maximum oxygenation needs. (2) Methods: The method used is a case study by providing nursing care to Mr. A with a health problem of Pleural Effusion. the study was conducted in the Shafa Room of the dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital, Aceh Government with a nursing care period of 6 days, where 2 days were used for data collection and 4 days for nursing interventions. The assessment began on April 29, 2024 at the Zainal Abidin Hospital, Aceh. The patient was taken to the hospital because he complained of shortness of breath and had a dry cough that had lasted for 3 weeks. (3) Results: Treatment to increase oxygen saturation in patients with complaints of shortness of breath and pleural effusion is to adjust the position so that the patient can feel comfortable, one of which is the lateral and head up positions for 30 minutes alternately. (4) Conclusions:  Nursing actions are carried out based on evidence based nursing (EBN) regarding the provision of lateral and head up positions. Where this application can provide knowledge about the effectiveness of lateral and head up positions to reduce shortness of breath. At the evaluation stage, the author found the final result of the diagnosis that the patient was no longer experiencing shortness of breath.
