Abstract

Unhealthy eating habits and an inactive lifestyle are major risk factors for increased blood cholesterol levels, particularly in adults. The Acehnese community generally prefers foods that are high in fat and prepared using oil. In addition, a high frequency of coffee consumption (more than twice a day) contributes to increased sugar intake as a source of refined carbohydrates, accompanied by low consumption of vegetables and fruits. These factors pose a challenge in the prevention and non-pharmacological management of hypercholesterolemia. This case study aims to describe family nursing care through the use of a readily available drink—guava juice (Psidium guajava)—as an effort to lower blood cholesterol levels. This study used a descriptive method. The nursing intervention consisted of administering 250 ml of guava juice daily for four consecutive days. Evaluation was conducted by comparing blood cholesterol levels before and after the intervention. After four days of intervention, blood cholesterol levels decreased from 294 mg/dl to 245 mg/dl. This indicates that regular consumption of guava juice is effective in helping to reduce cholesterol levels. It is recommended that the community, particularly individuals with high cholesterol, utilize non-pharmacological therapies such as guava juice consumption as part of cholesterol management. Adults should be encouraged and motivated to adopt this therapy regularly. This intervention should also be integrated into ongoing family nursing care programs.   Keywords: Cholesterol, Psidium Guajava, mature
