Abstract

Houseflies (Musca domestica) are a vector for the spread of diarrheal diseases, which remain a health problem in Indonesia. This study aimed to test the repellent properties of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi) leaf methanol extract against houseflies and determine the most effective concentration. This experimental study used a post-test only control group design with four treatment groups: control (0%) and extract concentrations of 15%, 20%, and 40%, each replicated three times. Data analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and one-way ANOVA. The results showed a significant difference between groups (p=0.000), with the 40% concentration providing the highest repellent properties. In conclusion, starfruit leaf extract has the potential to be an environmentally friendly botanical insecticide, particularly at a concentration of 40%, and could be an alternative to reduce the use of chemical insecticides.   Keywords: houseflies, Averrhoa bilimbi, botanical insecticide, repellent
